Kitesurfing for Beginners

Kitesurfing from zero: easier than it looks

Kitesurfing looks extreme, but learning it is safer than mountain biking — if you do it with an instructor on the right spot. Velika Plaza in Montenegro is exactly that place: a huge sandy beach, warm waist-deep shallows and a steady thermal wind that switches on after lunch almost every day from May to September.

The beginner course programme

The basic course takes 5–7 days with two hours of training per day:

  • Days 1–2. Wind-window theory, trainer-kite control, safety systems, launching and landing.
  • Days 3–4. Flying the full-size kite, body-dragging through the water, independent start.
  • Days 5–7. Water start with the board, first runs, speed control, riding back to your starting point.

After the course you will ride independently and safely — the criterion by which kite schools are judged everywhere in the world.

Why Montenegro is the right place to learn

It is cheaper than the famous spots of Spain or Greece, while the conditions for a beginner are better: flat shallow water, sandy bottom, steady wind without gusts. And after the session the Adriatic is waiting — fresh fish in the beach restaurant and medieval towns half an hour away.
